Miles' First Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving day was a blast!  I think we have established our new tradition:  Taking Miles to Bass Pro Shop in RC for a free photo with Santa Claus!  He did so well, and I can't wait to turn it into our Christmas Card.  We took Baby to see Santa and then hung out for a while.  Here's a little preview of the cuteness.

This is why hunting + coloring books = a very weird idea

Hey a turkey!

So then we went over to Michelle's for the Thanksgiving feast.  It was so great getting there early - I got a chance to sample everything before they hit the table!  Yum!  It wasn't as epic as usual; that is, we didn't have to cook for 30-40 people this year.  It was wonderful, and a lot more intimate this year.  Michelle, Phil, & the kids hosted us three, my Mom, Matthew, Mark & Jenny, Tito Charles, Tita Barbara, Ema & Ben, Larry Sr., Loretta, Larry, Grandma, and Bryan.  That's 21 people!  Woah!!  Well, it felt a lot smaller than the past few years.

And oh wait, let me clarify:  the food was definitely epic.

Miles had fun hanging with everybody.  Sophia is a natural with him.  He would get sad anytime she left the room after playing with him.

The definite upside to having a smaller crowd this year was having a ton of leftovers!  (See the picture with the stacks of boxes.)  We usually get one to-go box and share it for dinner the next night, but we have 3 boxes of sides, two of turkey and ham, and one of dessert!  Woo hoo!!!

Just Dance 3 to top it off!!

I love our family.  Thanks to the Lord that He has blessed us so immensely.  My Mom's turkey is not something to be trifled with.  And our Just Dance sessions are a great way to work off the calories.  It was so fabulous to hang out, sing, laugh, and chat with people I love.  If we weren't able to celebrate with you, we definitely missed you - and I want to hear about your holiday!  Love to you.

So Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving!

A quick update of Miles' latest adventures.  He doesn't really like to crawl - he was sitting up and lunging forward before he figured out what to do with his hands.  Take a look:

Here he is pulling up to stand.  It's "Take 2" because
the first attempt ended with him sort of falling over.

He's going to be 8 months old next Tuesday.  I can't believe how fast it's going.  I love everything about this kid - even when I'm sitting down to type a few words, and he's moaning in his crib because he's trying to avoid taking a nap.  Miles is genuinely one of the sweetest babies I know.  He will just look over at me and smile, or hug me back.

The Latest and Greatest

First, some videos:

This first one is a little long, and Miles is enjoying his dinner.
You can see our mess of unpacked stuff in the back.

October 25th, Miles isn't crawling yet,
but he gets around.

November 6th, Miles sitting up
and winning a wrestling match with Wall-E

So the latest:

* Miles loves trying new foods.  My favorite invention is this mesh fruit holder that lets Miles chomp on things like apple chunks, grapes, or watermelon without the hazard of choking.

* On Thursday, November 10, Miles figured out the crawling thing!  It has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for him.  He seriously saw, I mean really saw his bookshelf for the first time that night.  It's like he realized that he can reach his toys and books without our help.

* Miles has pulled up to stand by himself!  All it took was him wanting to be held, me putting him in his crib to put on the Moby Wrap, and then he simply rocked forward from sitting onto his knees, and next thing I saw was him standing up in his crib!!  We lowered his mattress on Friday, November 11.

* Miles attended his second wedding to celebrate Mr. & Mrs. David & Laura Hill on 11/11/11.  It was so sweet!

* We had our housewarming party on November 12.  It was a blast!  Our realtor and buddy, Scott Gieser, grilled carne asada, and my Mom & sister brought tons of yummy fixins, dessert, and more food!  And of course, I want to mention Tita Barbara who brough the delicious cheese & mushroom enchilada casserole ("Enchilasagna" to some).  We had a great turn out, and the rain didn't stop us from partying.  It filled me with joy to host so many people we love in our new home.  It definitely feels warmer... and cleaner!  I should just have people over to keep me accountable for cleaning up after myself.  Ha!  Pictures to come - I didn't take any, so I'll have to get some from one of our lovely guests.  :P

* Work is getting better - everyone that can, wants to help, and is helping me feel less overwhelmed.  I have a tendency to overcomplicate things, so it's streamlining time.  The one thing I don't want to do is spend too much time after school, which = less time with Miles in the afternoon and evening.  It's already difficult enough not being with him all day, but when I am obsessed with getting my walls perfect, or cleaning up the class, I'm not really accomplishing that much anyway.  Thank you for your prayers in this.  And keep praying for James.  His work switched his hours from starting at 5:30am to starting at 3:30am.  It's getting closer to 3rd shift, which would be really REALLY hard for us.  On the other hand, work is work, especially right now, and we are thankful for his job.

Wow, October seriously came and went.  Miles is already 7 months old, sitting up, and cut his bottom two teeth!

Miles on Halloween

Michelle's party was on the 29th, and on the 30th, Miles sat up by himself for the first time!  I have to take video so that everyone can see how well he does it now!  Bubs has this hilarious way of getting around that includes scooching, rolling, sitting up, flomping down, and then doing it all again.  Miles did so well trick or treating over at the Specks' house!  I think his costume was so cozy that he was sleepy and comfortable.  The best part is that James and I get to enjoy all the candy.  More to come soon!  Love to you all.
